Mark Consuelos reveals the one guest who brings the drama to LIVE and why he loves it

Mark Consuelos shared why he loves it when Joel McHale visits the set of LIVE with Kelly and Mark: because of his funny, snarky banter.

Mark and his wife, Kelly Ripa, are professionals at conducting interviews that effectively showcase various stars and their latest projects, usually in a positive light.

Sometimes, though, a star comes on, and things go haywire, like on a recent episode of LIVE, when Joel appeared to throw shade at one of LIVE’s employees.

Kelly and Mark love the crew they work with, but when allowed to mess with LIVE’s executive producer, Michael Gelman, also known as Gelman, they jumped on it.

Joel, a comedian most famous for The Soup, a show that ran on E! a decade ago, is a frequent guest on LIVE and takes every chance he gets to dig at Gelman.

In the past, Joel called Gelman’s time at LIVE a “reign of terror.” Now, he loves to continue their feud every time he is on the show.

Mark loved seeing Joel go after Gelman

This time, Mark was all in for the action, in the fun, lighthearted way that long-term friends can be with a workmate.

As Joel entered the studio, he noticed that Gelman was eating during the live show and started in on him, saying, “Who is that?” After Kelly and Mark reminded Joel that he was Gelman, the long-time executive producer of LIVE, Joel continued the onslaught, “I’ve never met you before…it is so great that you can eat and do your job at the same time.”

Joel mimicked Gelman eating, and then Kelly revealed that Gelman’s induction to the Broadcast Hall of Fame is coming up in the fall, inviting the comedian along to roast him.

Mark shared that he loves it when Joel disses Gelman: “This is my favorite part. You come here, and you bust his chops!” Kelly and Mark laughed at Joel’s comments about Gelman.

Here’s the real reason Joel came to LIVE

Joel is hosting Season 2 of The 1% Club on Fox beginning June 10, 2025. He shared some information about the game show and its premise, which involves 100 people competing for money. Each contestant starts with $1,000, which is added to a pot for the winner once they answer a question incorrectly or fail to respond within the time frame.

Joel’s new show appears to be an intriguing watch for fans of compelling game shows.

LIVE with Kelly and Mark airs weekdays on ABC.
