Big Brother alum Jessica Hughbanks Brokaw shared the sad news that her husband died.
Jessica was on Big Brother 8, which aired way back in 2007. She was a college student from Haysville, Kansas, when she joined the show.
Jessica made it to the big Double Eviction night before she was eliminated, finishing in sixth place for the season.
This was also the season that featured Evel Dick Donato (he won), his daughter, Daniele Donato, and Eric Stein. Jessica and Eric returned to Big Brother 9 to host a challenge, while Evel Dick and Danielle returned as a duo on Big Brother 13. Danielle also played on Big Brother: All Stars 2.
Jessica entered the house secretly (through the Head of Household Room) with Dick and Dustin Erikstrup as part of a twist. Later, a showmance between Jessica and Eric developed, but it didn’t advance much further in the real world.

“Our hearts are broken but we know that he is in Heaven now with no more pain,” Jessica recently captioned a Facebook post.
Jessica’s post also featured a link to an obituary for her husband, Matthew Brokaw. He passed away on December 27, 2025.
“Matthew Brokaw, age 50, of Wichita, KS passed away on December 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with Esophageal and Gastric cancer,” reads part of the post.
The post continues by revealing that “Matt was a devoted husband, proud father, and loyal friend,” and that “He spent 25 years working for the Wichita Thunder Hockey Team.”
Matt and Jessica had two children, Max and Cam. He was also said to be “remembered for his strength, his sense of humor, and the way he inspired others with his determination and love for life.”
Messages of support were left on the page and on Jessica’s Facebook post.
“Oh Jess, my heart is broken for you and the boys. I’m sending you big prayers and hugs for all the days ahead,” wrote one person.
“Oh my, I am so sorry. He is truly a kind and caring soul and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family,” noted another commenter.
