A Big Brother 23 showmance just ended. Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss had been dating for the past four years, but they announced that the relationship was over.
Derek and Claire played Big Brother during the Cookout season. They struck up a romantic relationship in the BB23 jury house and took that secret into the real world.
Later, the couple went public with how they had found each other. On the show, Claire finished in eighth place, and Derek finished in tenth place. They both voted for Xavier Prather to win.
Derek and Claire later appeared on The Amazing Race, where they won the show and the $1 million prize. Viewers have seen them on various shows after that, including Derek as an Elf on Big Brother: Reindeer Games.
The Big Brother 23 showmance is over
Derek and Claire posted a lengthy message on social media on behalf of the former couple:
“Hi everyone, After 4 wonderful years together, Claire and I have decided to end our relationship. Nothing dramatic happened, just the realization that we’re different people who want different things,” the note began.
“We still care deeply about each other, are grateful for the time we shared, and will remain friends. Thank you for all the love and support, it truly means so much,” they continued.
“We hope that by sharing we can be given space and grace to move forward without any speculation or drama. Love Derek and Claire,” their message ended.
