Derick Dillard’s major career change takes Jill Duggar out of Arkansas

Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar are leaving all the family drama behind for life in the military.

On Thursday, Jill and Derick shared a new Instagram post urging fans to head to the family blog for their latest update, which details Derick’s latest career move.

It may be surprising to some to see the Duggar son-in-law swearing in as a U.S. Marine in a post titled “Our Next Big Adventure”. He’s not headed for combat, though, so fans of the family do not need to worry. Instead, Jill shared that Derick is headed for Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) and will be heading to Quantico, Virginia, “in a few weeks.”

She shared that the hope is for Derick to be commissioned as an officer, complete a bit more training, and then become a Marine Corps Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer. The Counting On alum revealed that Derick actually started the process back in March and the plan is for Jill and the kids to meet him in Virginia after training before they all move together to Rhode Island.

This is a big career move for Derick, who passed the BAR exam in February 2022 and became an attorney in Arkansas in April 2022. He attended the University of Arkansas School of Law in August 2018 and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree on May 8, 2021.

For the couple, this new chapter marks a fresh start far removed from the public scrutiny that has followed the Duggar family for years. Jill has been open about setting boundaries and prioritizing her immediate family, and this move appears to align with that focus. While the transition to military life will undoubtedly come with challenges, it also offers stability, structure, and a clear path forward for their growing family.
