Here’s why Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin clashed over The Golden Bachelor

The ladies on the popular talk show The View are at it again with differing opinions on a heated topic, this time about The Golden Bachelor.

Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor just began airing on ABC, and the star, Mel Owens, is already apologizing for remarks he made months ago.

Mel Owens, a retired Wolverine linebacker from Michigan, appeared on a podcast, In the Trenches, and promptly put his foot into his mouth about the ladies he would date on the show.

On the podcast, Mel, who happens to be 66 years old, said the ladies he wants to date are between 45 and 60 years old.

Mel shared that “If they’re sixty or older…God no!,” before declaring that he wants to stay away from “artificial hips and wigs.”

During the premiere of The Golden Bachelor, Mel decided to issue an apology to the ladies in an attempt to alleviate the negative feelings many of them had brought to the show due to his remarks.

Whoopi shuts down the ladies with her view about The Golden Bachelor

Whoopi introduced the topic of Mel Owens, calling it “very important,” since he shared some ageist opinions about women over the age of sixty.

Mel opened his remarks on The Golden Bachelor, “I hope you forgive me, and let me earn it back,” and Whoopi wanted to speak about the topic.

Immediately, the ladies on The View shared their feelings, causing Whoopi to calm Sara Haines down during Alyssa Farah Griffin’s speech.

As the segment continued, Sunny revealed that while she understood Mel’s desire for a “fit” woman, there were many fit women of that age, and she wanted to give him a pass on that comment.

Whoopi broke into disagreement with Sunny, “I find it very, very, crazy that at this point people are making those kinds of comments.”

Whoopi continued to say about love, “that you find it where you find it.” Whoopi is certainly not giving Mel a break about his comments about older women.
