Racism reared its head during a new episode of The Amazing Race. The fourth episode of the new season aired on Wednesday night (October 5), with the players making their way through Hungary.
For anyone who hasn’t been tuning in yet, every team has at least one Big Brother alum on it. This crossover was intended for Big Brother fans to watch.
Shortly after the episode began, Big Brother 25 winner Jag Bains and his brother Jas had trouble hailing a cab. While most of the other teams found it easier, their frustrations mounted as nobody would stop for them. When they put on their hoods, a taxi finally stopped for them. They noted it to the cameraman and thanked the driver for stopping. But more problems would surface later.
Taxi trouble on The Amazing Race
Later in the episode, Jag and Jas continued to have trouble with taxis, so they opted to take trains instead of wasting time trying to hail a cab. But they aren’t the only ones to experience trouble on the show. A social media post reportedly from Joseph Abdin (he was racing with his brother Adam) stated that they had to jump in front of a taxi to get it to stop earlier in the episode.
“Those taxies did NOT stop for Adam & I/Jag & Jas, the one we’re in I jumped in front of the car to stop it and he then took us and dropped us far from where we needed to be,” the post claims.
“Then every person we asked for directions brushed us off and sent us further away,” the post continued.
“Oh no, Joseph and Adam experienced the same racism that Jag and Jas did. Joseph says they forced that taxi to stop by getting in front of it but then it took them far away intentionally and every person they met in Hungary gave them wrong directions #theamazingrace#tar38,” a fan posted after their saw Joseph’s experience.
Big Brother and The Amazing Race fans are upset
Many viewers shared their frustrations with what Jag, Joseph, and their brothers had to deal with in Hungary.
“Seeing Jag and Jas (and apparently Adam and Joseph) have their races actively hampered by racial discrimination is absolutely infuriating #TAR38,” posted entertainment writer Mike Bloom.
“Have definitely thought about how race negatively impacts players on the race in szns past. there was a black duo last season who kept getting kicked out of cabs or ignored by cabs when they were in asia, they never addressed it but it def crossed my mind that might have been why,” a fan responded.
“I feel like i know why Jag and Jas aren’t getting any taxis…… #AmazingRace #theamazingrace,” an annoyed fan wrote.
“JAG AND JAS LITERALLY HAVING TO COVER UP THEIR HAIR WRAPS……..and getting a taxi IMMEDIATELY????? AMAZING RACISM! #AmazingRace #TheAmazingRace,” wrote another viewer.
