Jonathan Jackson is out at General Hospital.
The legacy character will air his final scenes next week as he says goodbye to Port Charles — again.
This isn’t a huge shock, given that Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) turned down Lucky’s proposal on the hit ABC soap this week.
However, it is disappointing.
Lucky is the son of super couple Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), and his presence in Port Charles has been delightful for long-time fans.
Unfortunately, after nine months in the role, Jonathan Jackson is out.
Lucky’s storyline has run its course
The writing was on the wall for Jonathan Jackson’s exit from General Hospital.
Once Jason (Steve Burton) and Anna (Finola Hughes) rescued him from captivity, his purpose seemed to be to prop up Lulu’s (Alex Havins) wake-up from her coma.
Getting Lucky and Elizabeth back together would have been a dream come true. However, because of his desire to move around, she wasn’t willing to leave her life in Port Charles.
Their love story is one General Hospital fans love, but we know it isn’t endgame.
Jonathan’s return as a prop for the entrance of Jens Sidwell (Carlo Rota) wasn’t the best way the writers could have used him, but it added another contention element for Sonny (Maurice Benard).
He also introduced another doctor to the landscape, which we can’t deny was needed. Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) came in at the right time to help with several moments around the hospital that could have ended badly.
Jonathan Jackson could return to General Hospital in the future
The door is open for a return should Jonathan Jackson want to revisit Port Charles.
General Hospital’s EP Frank Valentini confirmed Jonathan’s exit and offered a statement to TV Insider.
He said, in part, “We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.”
The actor could return, especially if they do a special episode honoring an actor.
Jonathan’s final scenes will air next week as he makes the rounds and says goodbye to those most important to him.
Having him stay would have been more fun, but what we got over the last nine months was better than nothing.
We don’t expect there to be a recast, though. Having Lucky say his goodbyes seems final, for now.
What will be next for Elizabeth and her love life? Could Ric (Rick Hearst) rekindle things with her?
Be sure to tune in next week so that Lucky’s exit isn’t missed.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
