The Challenge: Vets vs. New Threats premieres on Wednesday, introducing a new group of rookies to MTV’s competition series.
At least three cast members from the United States version of Big Brother are there, including Cedric Hodges, America Lopez, and Blue Kim.
The season’s format, from the start, involved one rookie and one veteran teaming up for a daily challenge.
In the premiere episode, we saw what they were capable of and learned how the elimination format would work.
In addition, host TJ Lavin revealed several other twists for the season ahead, which will make for some intriguing gameplay.
As the premiere was about to air and aired, many fans, as well as one former finalist on The Challenge, had opinions about America and Blue.
Blue made a splash in the Vets and New Threats premiere
The opening challenge involved teammates tied together to retrieve colored balls in a mud pit worth varying points. The team with the most points in their basket at the end of two rounds won. The last-place team automatically faced elimination. A TJ coin flip revealed it was a men’s elimination.
The winning team was Johnny Bananas and Dee Valladeres. They also got to save one team, and thought saving Theo Campbell and Izzy Fairthorne would take away their vote. However, that backfired, and they still got to help their UK allies vote.
Theo and Izzy, along with the rest of the teams, were the jury who voted on the team to send into elimination. It was between the team of rookie Justin Hinsley and Nia Moore, or rookie Jake Cornish and Cara Maria Sorbello.
Bananas wanted his vet allies to vote for Jake to break up the UK alliance. However, since the UK’s Rogan O’Connor was already going into the men’s elimination, he wanted to face Justin.
The vote was close, and Blue’s partner, Derek Chavez, said he voted for Justin. That occurred after Justin thought Derek told him he had his back earlier.
Justin defeated Rogan at elimination, which had everyone talking. TJ told competitors they would get new partners after that. Blue said she was happy since she wouldn’t be connected to Derek after he voted for Justin.
“As excited as I am to watch tonight, there’s one person that I already find extremely annoying and can’t wait to watch them get eliminated,” The Challenge 39 finalist Nurys Mateo wrote on X.
Fans asked her if it was Blue Kim or another rookie, and Nurys gave Blue an early vote of approval.
“I LOVE blue!! She’s such a great vibe,” Nurys replied to one fan.
America Lopez competed alongside Turbo
Meanwhile, America also made a different splash. She got dragged during the premiere, literally. In the daily challenge, her partner, Turbo Camkiran, had to carry her up from the mud pit.
Fans may have noticed that America is less active on social media regarding the promotion of The Challenge 41. However, she posted a few Instagram Story slides on Wednesday night, including one about Turbo dragging her.
Cedric also has some drama coming in Season 41
The Challenge dropped a new trailer after the premiere, featuring a glimpse of the drama to come in Season 41.
We already knew that there would be an explosive fight around the kitchen, involving CT and Turbo, and got to see or hear a bit more of that in the trailer.
In addition, Nany Gonzalez gets held back by one of the rookies after exploding at her veteran castmate, Aneesa Ferreira.
However, two of the rookies appear to get into a shouting match, and one of them is Big Brother’s Cedric.
In the footage, a heated altercation appears to break out between Cedric and fellow rookie Gabe Wai.
“Bro, you talkin’ crazy to someone who can smash you in the face?” Gabe says to Cedric in one of the Challenge house rooms.
It appears enough castmates are between them to prevent something serious from happening, but one never knows when it comes to the reality competition series!
The Challenge: Vets and New Threats airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on MTV.
