Horacio Gutierrez and Nurys Mateo have become a popular couple from MTV’s The Challenge, but speculation has led some fans to believe that their romance may have ended.
They first appeared as castmates on Season 38, also known as Ride or Dies. Horacio teamed up with Olivia Kaiser and reached the final that season.
Nurys teamed with friend and veteran Challenge star Nelson Thomas, but they got eliminated earlier.
During that season, Horacio and Nurys didn’t express interest in one another. Instead, they had showmances or hook-ups with other castmates.
However, Season 39, Battle for a New Champion, featured sparks between the two reality TV stars, which launched an off-screen relationship.
They went on to appear on Season 40 of The Challenge, where they experienced early eliminations, but it seemed to have no impact on their romance after filming. Recently, speculation arose that they were not a couple.
What are the Nurys and Horacio breakup rumors?
On Sunday, a popular Challenge account on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a screenshot of Horacio and Nurys, which might be the first indication of their breakup.
Based on details from the X post, Nurys’ recent activities, including not attending an event Horacio went to and unpinning a photo of them together on Instagram, could be telltale signs.
“Streets saying Horacio & Nurys broke up but r still friends. This is a rumor until 1 of them confirms. Fans saying she didnt post him for his bday 2 days ago, didnt go to his event yesterday, unpinned a photo of them on IG, removed her TikTok bio that mentioned ‘life w her bf,'” the @challengestuffs X account wrote.
For those wondering about the recent “event” mentioned in the X post above, Kyland Young was also there, along with Challenge GOAT Jordan Wiseley and castmate Corey Lay.
Horacio didn’t share a photo from it on his IG, but Kyland shared a carousel series featuring the aforementioned Challenge stars and others.
Social media history could indicate a split
Both Nurys and Horacio have posted pictures on their official Instagram accounts of them together. Nurys’ most recent IG photo of her with Horacio is from June 20.
Nurys still has the video below from April 2024 pinned to her IG account’s reels.
“The best chapter of my life started the day you walked into it,” she wrote in a caption for the clip of her and Horacio together.
Meanwhile, Horacio’s most recent photo of him and Nurys together goes back way further on Instagram.
One has to go back to September 2024 to find a photo of Horacio Gutierrez and Nurys together as a couple. He has several pictures on IG before that and tends to keep a bit quieter on social media, so it may not suggest a breakup yet.
It’s also worth noting that Nurys has been active on her X account, including posting thoughts about Love Island and Season 41 of The Challenge.
She mentioned that she liked seeing Blue Kim on the show, along with others.
There have been no recent mentions of Horacio on her X account. However, Nurys reposted an interesting message last week (below), which could be another indicator.
Are Nurys and Horacio still together or done?
The couple last appeared on MTV during their relationship in The Challenge: Battle of the Eras. Both Nurys and Horacio were on Era 4. Nurys was eliminated early by Olivia, and later, Derrick Kosinski sent Horacio home after an elimination that had everyone talking!
Everyone, including Nurys and Horacio, was at first outspoken about the event’s outcome potentially being unfair or rigged. That may have ostracized the couple from getting a call for Season 41 (Vets and New Threats).
Horacio previously indicated that he “retired” from The Challenge after what happened. Production got together with him and Derrick for a private video call. They showed exclusive elimination footage.
Horacio then appeared on the Challenge Maia Podcast with Derrick. During that chat, Horacio seemingly admitted to a part of the rules that he claimed he missed.
Beyond that, Horacio and Nurys could be friends. We don’t believe they broke up until they say it somewhere.
As of this writing, neither Nurys nor Horacio has given any indication or statement that they have broken up. However, if they did, it would be upsetting for fans of The Challenge rooting for this power couple to succeed.
