The fate of The Challenge may be in the hands of the star cast members and fans as it heads into Season 42, and Paulie Calafiore shared a bold take about the next cast.
According to Johnny Bananas in his recent podcast, MTV is shutting down already in several countries and will follow suit in the United States.
With that in mind, he said the next season of the reality competition series needs to deliver at full strength to entertain viewers.
He attempted to recruit his friend Leroy Garrett to participate in the next season and suggested that the best of the best cast members needed to be there.
That might include former Big Brother star Paulie, a two-time finalist who tends to bring the drama and entertainment when he’s on the show.
However, he recently dropped some intriguing remarks about how he believes the next season should go, and some fans may not agree.
Paulie gets honest about The Challenge 42 cast
This week, one of The Challenge fan accounts posted, “Season 42 has to be a great season or the show gets canceled,” and asked fans to suggest who they’d like to see on the cast.
That prompted Paulie to share his thoughts, expressing, “I’ll tell you who shouldn’t be on it… 90% of Era 1 and Era2.”
“If you ain’t fighting, f***ing, showing up fit, or playing to win. Stay home. Or on all stars,” he wrote on his X message.
“I had high hopes for the rookies this season but they let me down too with the exception of a few. Theo is carrying the season,” he said in his remarks.
Battle of the Eras featured OGs and newer stars of The Challenge
There was plenty of hype for Season 40, aka Battle of the Eras, because it featured many former champions, finalists, and OG competitors. Those OGs were part of the Era 1 and 2 cast teams.
Era 1 featured OGs including Derrick Kosinski, Darrell Taylor, Brad Fiorenza, CT Tamburello, Aneesa Ferreira, Jodi Weatherton, Mark Long, and Katie Cooley. It also featured one of the show’s co-winners on the women’s side, Rachel Robinson.
Meanwhile, Era 2 had the show’s all-time winningest player, Johnny Bananas. He and Derek Chavez both appeared in the final. Additionally, Nehemiah Clark, Cara Maria Sorbello, Aviv Melmed, Laurel Stuckey, Ryan Kehoe, Emily Schromm, Brandon Nelson, and KellyAnne Judd represented that team.
One has to wonder which of these MTV stars Paulie is referring to, since he was one of several cast members to go home in the show’s earliest eliminations. However, he might contend that he lost because of the strength of competition he faced from teammate Theo Campbell.
Nonetheless, it appears something big will need to happen for The Challenge to continue, as news recently rocked the internet that MTV cancelled Ridiculousness after 46 seasons.
The Challenge: Vets and New Threats airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on MTV.
