New rumors reveal that Season 51 will feature 20 castaways. That’s similar to how Season 40 (Winners at War) began.
But here comes the biggest difference from recent seasons.
Season 51 will reportedly feature two tribes of 10 people each. Gone is the three tribe format from the New Era.
This should make the early-season challenges more exciting. It also helps protect the show from having one really weak tribe that loses nearly every challenge.
Fans have been begging for the producers to try the two-tribe format again. It’s very understandable. This helps create more dynamic situations where luck isn’t a major factor in who goes home first.
It also opens the door for new challenges that we haven’t seen before. Yes, the producers are still limited by using the same location (Fiji), but there’s an opportunity for Season 51 to bring some freshness.
Hopefully, the new installment will also wait for the Merge and give the season some room to breathe. Rushing to the Merge has rarely led to good television.
There are also some unconfirmed rumors that each tribe could feature a returning player or two. That might have been meshed with previous Survivor 52 rumors. But we have no confirmation of any returning players (yet).
