Joe Cruz will soon leave Chicago Fire. The plot point for that departure has already been revealed.
During the Season 15 premiere, Cruz was seriously injured in a fire.
Later, it was revealed that he is partially paralyzed.
Cruz may never be a firefighter again, and he also may never walk again.
It’s a sad ending to his career at Firehouse 51, but we hope that he can still find happiness with the arrival of twins with his wife.
His injury sets the stage for his final episodes. Star Joe Minoso has also filmed his final scenes as Cruz.
When is Joe Cruz leaving Chicago Fire?
Showrunner Victor Teran gave an interview and provided insight into Joe Cruz’s departure.
The bad news is that it is coming up too quickly. Fans will really miss one of the show’s original characters.
“We decided it just felt like a kind of poetic element to making the 300th his final episode for now,” Teran told Soaps.com.
“The exit was sort of the heart of it. Once we decided that’s how it was going to be, we really built it around that as a way to really honor him. But there is, in true Chicago Fire fashion, an insane call that will not disappoint, and we haven’t done a spectacle like this in a while, and so, we were excited to go after it,” he clarified about that poignant episode.
According to the NBC schedule, Chicago Fire’s 300th episode is on Wednesday, November 4. That’s less than a month away.
Most fans likely remember that Chicago Fire’s 200th episode also featured a huge departure. That’s when Jesse Spencer finished his tour as Matthew Casey. Yes, Casey later returned for a few more episodes. So we believe the door is open for Cruz to have a future storyline. The showrunner really seemed to hint at it with his announcement.
Chicago Fire Season 15 episodes air Wednesday nights at 9/8c on NBC. Previous episodes are streaming on Peacock, including some great ones featuring Joe Minoso as Firefighter Joe Cruz.
