Did Michael Strahan leave GMA? Extended absence raises questions

Good Morning America viewers likely noticed one of the show’s main stars missing from recent episodes.

Co-anchor Michael Strahan has been absent from GMA’s regular trio that presents news and information on ABC.

Viewers typically see the former New York Giants star alongside co-stars Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.

However, the Pro Football Hall of Famer has been missing from the show for a week, which has seemingly prompted some concern from viewers.

Some may even wonder if Strahan decided to call it quits due to some behind-the-scenes drama after the show’s recent move.

Here’s what we know about the GMA situation involving Strahan and where he might have been all this time.

Strahan missed a week of GMA episodes

Good Morning America viewers last saw Strahan appear before July 4. GMA has introduced some of the new contestants for Dancing With the Stars, including Alix Earle, whom Strahan interviewed.

In late June, Strahan also spoke with WWE superstar John Cena about his exit from professional wrestling and ongoing entertainment career.

The show’s Fourth of July episode, which aired on a Friday, featured co-anchors Will Reeve, Rebecca Jarvis, and Whit Johnson.

Robin typically takes Fridays as her day off, while Strahan and Stephanopoulos have appeared on GMA for Friday episodes in the past. Still, it’s no surprise that the three main anchors would be off for a big holiday.

What may have surprised viewers is that Strahan didn’t return on Monday or throughout the rest of this week.

He’s been off Mondays throughout his GMA career, with most of that time off coinciding with his day off and his spending time on the opposite coast for Fox NFL Sunday. It’s not currently the NFL preseason or regular season, though.

What happened to Michael Strahan on GMA?

While Strahan has been mysteriously silent on his social media, his daughters have shared some content. Most recently, his daughter, Isabella Strahan, shared an Instagram carousel photo post.

“The people make the place,” she wrote in her caption, with “The Hamptions” geotagged as the location for the photos.

The images feature Isabella alongside her friends and twin sister, Sophia Strahan. In one of the photo slides, there’s a shot of their father’s home in the Hamptons, suggesting they were vacationing there.

Michael Strahan isn’t in any of the photos that Isabella shared. However, he and his girlfriend, Kayla Quick, may have been part of the trip and asked not to be included in any social media content during their journey.

Sophia Strahan shared an Instagram post one week ago, captioning it with “on Dnd,” likely referring to the phrase “do not disturb.”

Those photos featured her and her sister riding a horse. The location geotagged was Carson, North Dakota, so Strahan’s twin daughters may have traveled to several spots in July as they’re off to college.

According to Hello Magazine, numerous social media comments have asked where Strahan went and when he’d return to GMA.

As of this writing, ABC, GMA, and Strahan haven’t announced whether Strahan will return to Good Morning America in the coming week.

He has previously mentioned retiring from his television career, which includes GMA, Fox NFL Sunday, and the revived $100,000 Pyramid game show. However, there’s no indication that he has quit or retired from any of his jobs yet.
