Married at First Sight Season 19 first impression — And why you should tune in

There have been many rumbles from Married at First Sight fans after Season 19 premiered on Peacock. It’s the first season to move from Lifetime to Peacock, and many MAFS fans are not happy about the move.

That’s understandable, as a lot of viewers don’t want to pay for yet another streaming service just to watch one show, though I could argue that there are a lot of great shows on Peacock that are worth tuning in for like Poker Face, Twisted Metal, Bel Air, and all the Real Housewives shows. Did I mention Below Deck?

Anyway, I’ll get to the point, which is why I think Season 19 of Married at First Sight is perhaps the best one and why you should check this season out. Just keep in mind that since I’ll be talking about the first four episodes, there will be MAFS spoilers beyond this point so if you don’t want to know, stop reading now.

Married at First Sight Season 19 skips all the filler

Perhaps the best part of the new season so far, which takes place in Austin, is that they skipped right over all the filler that made the first episodes of previous seasons drag on. There are no matchmaking sessions or interviews with people who aren’t even on the show. There was no searching of the underwear drawers or pre-wedding anything, really.

MAFS Season 19 just skipped straight to the weddings, which is where all the fireworks start anyway and that is something that at least I fully appreciate.

There are two older couples this season

For the first time in Married at First Sight history, two couples were matched that are older and who have been married and had children before. That’s an experiment inside the experiment and we’re all for it.

Pat and Rhonda are 59 and 63 years old, respectively, and while there were sparks on their wedding day, now that they’re starting to get to know each other, we can already see the cracks starting to form.

Does that mean this older couple won’t be able to make things work and spend their golden years together? We’ll have to see. But Rhonda already pointed out that Pat seems very self-absorbed and uninterested in learning about or sharing her interests.

She’d better buckle up and get ready for a million space movies because that seems to be all he’s interested in. Rhonda seems accustomed to being the center of attention, and Pat can’t seem to let her star shine the way she likes.

Then, there is 54-year-old Chad and 47-year-old Belynda. This couple is even more interesting because Belynda is Jalyn’s mom. Jalyn was the first woman to get married on Season 19, having said “I do” to Josh. Jaylyn and Josh even attended Chad and Belynda’s wedding. They seem more compatible than Rhonda and Pat but we’re just getting started.

Now that we’ve watched the first four episodes of Season 19, which premiered on October 23, be sure to tune in for three more episodes on Peacock on October 30.
