Joy Behar breaks the silence on Whoopi Goldberg’s sudden absence from The View

The View is usually a well-oiled machine, with Whoopi Goldberg moderating the rest of the panel each week, but the show has undergone a recent change.

Joy Behar serves as the backup moderator when Whoopi Goldberg is absent from her seat on The View, typically on Fridays, creating a long weekend for the star of Sister Act.

A recent episode of the fan-favorite show The View featured Joy explaining why Whoopi was suddenly absent on a Monday while sharing her jealous feelings about the reasons behind it.

Whoopi has an active life outside of The View. She co-founded the All Women’s Sports Network and a Prosecco line and spends considerable time with her family.

While Whoopi has a daughter, Alex Martin, three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild, Joy’s explanation about the absence wasn’t based on a family matter.

Joy took the time at the beginning of a recent episode of The View to explain why Whoopi wasn’t there and when she would return to her seat as moderator on the show, which often tackles hot topics.

Joy reveals Whoopi’s whereabouts on The View

While Joy has her “Joy Boys” and other fan groups that tune in to see her on The View, since Whoopi Goldberg is a moderator and a cornerstone of the show, her absence needed explaining.

Joy opened a recent episode of The View, declaring that she is jealous of Whoopi, who was instead sitting in her seat on the show.

Joy said, “We are all jealous of Whoopi today because she’s in Italy. I hope it’s 100 degrees. She’s in Italy accepting an award for her book Bits and Pieces, so that she will be out this week.”

Whoopi often jets off to Italy during her time away from The View, and this seems to be the reason why she wasn’t there.

Whoopi’s best-selling book, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and I, won an award at the Taobuk International Literary Festival in Italy. She expressed her gratitude in an Instagram post.

When will Whoopi and the others return?

Joy confirmed that Whoopi would be off for the entire week due to her time in Italy, but that doesn’t mean she will return immediately after that.

Whoopi, Joy, and the other ladies will be off the week of the July 4th holiday for their annual hiatus.

The ticketing website 1iota.com, which issues tickets for the live audience at The View and other shows, such as Live with Kelly and Mark, confirms that the next live taping after the June 26 show is July 7, 2025.

The ladies of The View should return to the set refreshed and relaxed after their time off and ready to tackle the complex topics again.

The View airs weekdays at 11:00 a.m. ET/10:00 a.m. CT on ABC.
