Big Brother 28: Twist returns for new season

Big Brother 28 will again use the twist first introduced on BB26.

Host Julie Chen Moonves confirmed that the BB Blockbuster is back.

We first encountered the BB Blockbuster during BB26. It was introduced during the first “live” eviction, but it was called AI Arena that year.

The name was changed to BB Blockbuster for BB27, and it has now stuck. We at Tea on TV aren’t surprised by this announcement, as the producers love how it adds chaos to the show.

What is the BB Blockbuster?

Each week, there are three nominees on the block. Those nominees attempt to save themselves in the Veto Competition, but nobody wants to be on the block come eviction night.

During each eviction episode, three people compete in a bonus challenge (BB Blockbuster), where one of them escapes the block. Getting off the block during the “live” eviction means safety.

The final two nominees are then up for eviction, with one of them going home. It all adds intrigue and mystery to Thursday nights, making it more difficult for the houseguests to predict outcomes.

Some fans love it, while others don’t like that it can become unpredictable.

Two people who were really good at BB Blockbuster challenges were Keanu Soto and Tucker Des Lauriers. Will they appear on BB28 in some form?

Below is a video showcasing the AI Arenas from BB26:

When is the first BB Blockbuster on Big Brother 28?

Viewers will likely see the BB Blockbuster during the Thursday, July 16 episode. That is likely the first eviction night, following the season premiere on Thursday, July 9. As it’s within the first 10 days of the season, though, anything might happen.

Julie has already teased fans to “expect the unexpected” during Summer 2026. That usually goes without saying.

Julie has also released some BB28 house photos. We got our first look inside the new house.

More details about the Big Brother 28 season

A new Big Brother TV promo has revealed the theme. We are dealing with time travel this summer. That opens many fun doors.

Here’s a link to the Big Brother 28 episode schedule. The first episode drops on July 9, but the houseguests will be playing the game before that. We likely won’t get anything resembling a “live” move-in this year.

Big Brother alums will have a significant impact on the new season. But they aren’t the only ones. Survivor castaways are in tow. Will the fans like this?

Also, here’s a video of the BB28 House Tour. Everything has been remodeled for the new season.
