The new episode of Chicago Fire was missing Stella Kidd. It was expected due to how the previous episode ended, but her fans would still prefer to see Kidd every week.
Unfortunately, the One Chicago shows now have a policy that the stars won’t appear in every episode. It’s a cost-cutting measure to help reduce overall production costs. Still, it is jarring to have popular characters miss episodes.
It was simply Miranda Rae Mayo’s turn to miss another episode, and fans don’t have to worry about her being gone.
What happened to Stella Kidd on Chicago Fire?
Early in the November 12 episode (Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 7), Kelly Severide chatted with a fellow firefighter about Kidd’s whereabouts. She is in Cleveland, trying to help Isaiah’s mom find proper treatment. Isaiah is the foster kid living with Kidd and Severide.
Kidd’s absence did give Severide (played by Taylor Kinney) a good excuse to play Fire Cop for the hour. And those episodes are always fun, especially when fire investigation comes into play.
When will Stella Kidd return on Chicago Fire episodes?
Unfortunately, the November 12 episode was the Chicago Fire fall finale. It means we won’t see Kidd in any new episodes for the rest of 2025. The hiatus extends through the rest of November and the entirety of December.
The good news is that the show returns with a new episode on Wednesday, January 7. The bad news is that the Chicago Fire fall finale ended on a cliffhanger, suggesting the winter premiere will take place on that same day.
Since Episode 7 will continue into Episode 8, it likely means Kidd will still be out of town and not in the episode. Unless, that is, Severide is injured in that arson fire and Kidd has to return to Chicago quickly.
Severide also noted that Kidd would be out for two weeks, so it would make sense that her next appearance will be in Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 9 on January 14.
