Chicago P.D. spoilers: Details revealed about Upstead return

Chicago P.D. has a big surprise for viewers when the show finally returns.

Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos return as Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton for the huge crossover event.

As previously reported by Tea on TV, the One Chicago 2026 crossover arrives on Wednesday, March 4.

That night will feature one story that carries through Fire, Med, and P.D.

To help spice things up, Chicago P.D. fans will see Upstead helping Intelligence work on the massive case.

As seen in the image above, it’s good to see the Intelligence team having so many people featured in one night.

Chicago P.D. executive producer speaks about Upstead’s return

Executive producer Gwen Sigan recently spoke about Upton and Halstead returning to Chicago P.D.

“It was especially gratifying having them return, to see how the dynamics between them have changed and also getting to see their point of view of our unit, of Voight [Jason Beghe], of our new characters, and how much we’ve changed, too,” she told TV Insider.

As a reminder, the crossover event begins with Fire at 8/7c, followed by Med at 9/8c, and then P.D. at 10/9.

“Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency; their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery with consequences that could put countless lives in jeopardy,” reads the Fire synopsis for March 4.

That sets the stage for everything else.

“We’ve never attacked anything as big as this plane incident before. The action is epic in scope, and yet at the same time, it’s the most character-driven crossover we’ve ever done, really tapping deep into the history of the main characters of the One Chicago world with the central mystery,” Fire executive producer Andrea Newman added.

The band is back together

The photo above suggests that Hailey Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos) is back in town working for the FBI. The character left the city to find herself, with the Season 11 finale marking her exit.

We haven’t seen Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer) since early in Season 10. He re-enlisted, leaving behind his wife (Upton) and a team scrambling to stay above water.

Will they get a warm welcome? Or will there be some stumbles along the way as they try to help their former team with the investigation?

“An airfield emergency triggers a deeper mystery involving a passenger plane, propelling the Intelligence Unit into a high-stakes pursuit of the culprit, all under the sharp eye of the FBI,” reads the P.D. synopsis for March 4.
