Survivor 50 saw an early exit for Kyle Fraser after he suffered a bad injury.
Midway through the first Immunity Challenge, Kyle appeared to hurt his leg. Host Jeff Probst halted the challenge while the medical staff examined him.
Kyle chose to stay in the game. The fear, though, was that he had sprained his ankle or possibly even fractured it.
The next day, the medical staff checked him out again and discovered he likely had a torn Achilles tendon. He was pulled from the game on Day 4.
Kyle revealed what he went through on Survivor 50
In an exit interview, Kyle Fraser spoke about his second time in Fiji.
“I was preparing so much for Season 50, I’m like, I’m not going to let something like this hold me back. … It was always in the back of my mind [that I might have to leave], but I started playing optimistically to make sure I could stay. Unfortunately, I couldn’t, and it just shakes out that way,” Kyle told TV Insider.
Kyle also revealed that he was in “a significant amount of pain” the entire time he was trying to tough it out. We saw during the episode that he kept trying to walk it off, but staying in the game could have led to lifelong consequences.
How is Kyle doing after Survivor 50?
As a reminder, Survivor 50 was filmed early last summer. So it has been many months since everyone went home. Kyle went through surgery eight months ago and is reportedly “doing well” in his recovery. The best news is that he has recently started running.
“I got surgery about four or five days later [after he left Fiji]. It was a full tear in the Achilles. I started from there. You don’t walk for two months, then you get in a boot, then you start walking with the cane. It’s a progression, but it’s a good progression. I’m sort of close to the end of it, so it’s good,” Kyle explained.
The bad news for Kyle was that due to his injury, he couldn’t even stay at Ponderosa with the rest of the eliminated castaways. He missed a lot of the excitement that comes with playing Survivor.
Hopefully, Kyle gets invited back for a future season, because here at Tea on TV, we were really looking forward to seeing him competing again.
Cut scenes from the premiere
Another report on the season premiere reveals we didn’t see everything. During that first Immunity Challenge, Kyle made it safely up the wall and was ready to move on to the next stage.
But Colby Donaldson couldn’t make it up the wall.
Kyle jumped down to help Colby get up. And he succeeded. It was then that Kyle injured himself trying to get up the wall again. Talk about a tough break; no pun intended.
More to come from Survivor 50
Jenna Lewis-Dougherty called out pre-gaming and blamed it for her elimination. She had a tough road to climb, being one of the only people from the first few seasons.
Jenna also hilariously devoured “therapeutic” cake with her hands. She shared the video online.
Survivor 50 airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on CBS. Previous episodes are streaming on Paramount+.
