Survivor 50’s Angelina says the show is ‘failing the women’

Survivor 50 ended on the latest episode for Angelina Keeley.

But she has a lot to say about how the producers have presented the new season.

As a reminder, Angelina got voted out on Day 11. She was eliminated shortly before Charlie Davis also got sent home.

The former David vs. Goliath cast member has been watching the episodes at home. And she has had a strong reaction to what has aired on CBS.

Angelia Keeley feels that producers have failed the women

“In my exit press yesterday I spoke up about how the women are being depicted this season,” Angelina wrote on a new Instagram post.

“Look, I know reality television is entertainment, but it’s also a part of the zeitgeist. It’s narrative—and narrative shapes perception. At its best, media expands what we see and who we value. At its worst, it feeds our base human instincts and panders to the ugly parts of culture,” she expanded.

But then she really got down to it. And she might be right.

“So far on Survivor Season 50, the depiction of women players is falling very short. No one expects equity in a game that is inherently zero sum. But we do expect care in how stories are told, particularly from a monumental season intended to celebrate the franchise’s 25 years,” Angelina stated.

Angelina then addressed something she recently touched on. She was shocked that Tiffany Ervin is getting less screentime on Survivor 50 than guest star Zac Brown did.

Indeed, many fans are with her. Many Survivor fans felt “forced” to watch a Zac Brown experience that took away from the show.

“We expect Tiffany to have more confessionals than a random celeb that no one asked to see,” Angelina added.

She wasn’t done.

“We expect to hear from a blindsided castaway rather than a scene about farting. We expect more than old basic stereotypes,” the Survivor alum elaborated.

Angelia calls out Survivor 50 for too much Zac Brown

In an exit interview with Entertainment Weekly, Angelina got honest about her view of the Zac Brown segments and how the moment impacted female representation.

“Look, I did not go back to Survivor to be shown on Survivor. I went back on Survivor to play the game and to have the adventure again, and I got those things. That being said, stretching out beyond me, I think that it is an abysmal shame what’s happening right now in terms of the lack of female representation on this season. Tiffany has two confessionals. We’ve just finished episode 5. Tiffany’s had two confessionals, Zac Brown’s had four, okay? Of the five least edited and shown people, four of those are women,” Angelina stated.

Dalton Ross from EW stated that five players are averaging less than two confessionals per episode, and that four of them are women. It seems to echo exactly what Angelina has been saying.

“We’re not looking for complete equity across. That’s not realistic. But honestly, I feel like CBS, I feel like the production is failing the women on this season right now. And I’m not alone in this sentiment. There are a lot of us who are going to be coming out and speaking about this soon, and hopefully, if they’re still editing the season, they can turn it around and do better for the 12 women who chose to show up and play this celebration season with them, because right now it doesn’t feel like a celebration. It feels like a bro fest,” Angelina later added.

Many fans share her sentiment, and social media has already reacted.

“Obsessed with Angelina going scorched earth in her #Survivor50 exit press!!” one fan wrote and shared some key quotes.

Regarding those confessionals, here’s a breakdown of which castaways speak the most during episodes.
