Survivor alum Jeff Kent was just elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
After playing 17 years in Major League Baseball, Jeff retired as the all-time leader in home runs among second basemen.
During his time in baseball, Jeff played for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, and Cleveland Indians (now Guardians).
Jeff finished his career with 377 home runs, a .290 batting average, and 2,461 hits. He was also a five-time All-Star and won the Silver Slugger at second base four times.
Jeff Kent was on Survivor 25
Survivor: Philippines (Season 25) featured Jeff as a player. He injured himself early in the season, but tried to push through to possibly win that $1 million prize and gain the prestige of being the Sole Survivor.
Jeff lasted 22 days on Survivor 25, finishing in 10th place. At the time of the show, he stated, “My dad is my hero for instilling in me the desire to be the best you can in all that you do, and setting a great example for a happy family.”
He also compared himself to former player Colby Donaldson, who evoked images of athletic ability, southern charm, and gamesmanship.
Unfortunately for Jeff, he became transfixed on getting out Jonathan Penner, a returning player. That may have cost him the chance to go further in the game.
Denise Stapley won Survivor 25. Lisa Whelchel and Michael Skypin were the runner-ups. Jeff was one of the six people who voted for Denise to win. Yes, that’s the same Lisa from The Facts of Life.
Below, Jeff speaks during the Survivor 25 season finale.
Jeff Kent makes the Baseball Hall of Fame
After he retired from baseball, Jeff Kent appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot 10 times for the baseball writers. Though he had strong support, Jeff didn’t reach the 75 percent needed for induction.
But Jeff got another chance this year. The Contemporary Baseball Era Committee met and discussed eight players, including Jeff, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and several other prolific names.
Jeff was the only player to get enough support from this group, gaining himself a spot among the all-time greats like Babe Ruth, Ken Griffey Jr., and Bob Gibson in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
