The Golden Bachelor lead getting replaced after Mel Owens controversy?

Mel Owens may not be the Golden Bachelor lead now after he said he would send any woman over 60 home.

In April, the former NFL player was announced as the lead for Season 2, with filming slated for this summer. But after he angered seemingly everyone who loves the senior spinoff and had The Golden Bachelor viewers calling for his replacement, it seems that ABC might be listening.

You’d think producers would want to be careful with their Golden ratings phenomenon after Gerry Turner managed to turn so many against him after divorcing Theresa Nist faster than he married her.

In Mel’s case, he seemed to not get the whole point of the show, which is to help senior singles find love—not to help an old man find himself in an age-gap relationship. Did he not tune in for Season 1?

In any case, Reality Steve just announced that he has heard rumblings of a casting switchup at the network, though there’s no news yet of who might take Mel’s place.

On X, he wrote, “(EXCLUSIVE): I’m hearing that Mel Owens is OUT as the Golden Bachelor due to recent negative publicity surrounding his June 4th podcast appearance. Expect an announcement soon incl who is going to replace him. Haven’t heard a name yet on who that is. Will update if/when I hear.”

So he’ll be keeping us updated, and we’ll be keeping an eye on Reality Steve, who has more hits than misses when it comes to Bachelor Nation scoops.

Who would make a great replacement for Mel Owens?

We’re scouring the socials to see who would make a great Season 2 lead for The Golden Bachelor because, let’s be real, Mel Owens is not it!

Unfortunately (for us anyway,) Mark Anderson still isn’t single after getting into a relationship with One Tree HIll actress Barbara Alyn Woods.

We fear that putting Pascal Ibgui in the hot seat would be fun but would have about the same result as Mel Owens in terms of a May-December romance.

Is Charles Ling available? He might be our only hope at this point.
