Tristan Rogers discloses cancer battle as he returns to General Hospital

Tristan Rogers was part of the ’80s phenomenon that was General Hospital. His role as Robert Scorpio garnered heavy praise, especially as he bounced between Anna (Finola Hughes) and Holly (Emma Samms). Rogers’ initial run on the ABC soap lasted from 1980 through 1992, when he was presumed dead. However, he returned in 2006 and visited Port Charles off and on until he signed a new contract in 2018. He was last seen riding into the sunset with Holly in 2024.

However, that changed when Robert appeared on General Hospital on July 17 and 18, to great Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and her daughter as they fled their life in Port Charles. His first appearance back also marked the day Rogers’ battle with cancer was revealed. The timing was likely planned, as shows are filmed several weeks in advance.

Tristan Rogers reveals cancer battle

In a statement through his publicist shared with Deadline, it was revealed that Tristan Rogers is battling cancer. The news came on the heels of his return to Port Charles after several months away.

Details about Rogers’ specific cancer and treatment were not made available through the statement. Still, his publicist did reveal that he was working closely with doctors, and he appreciated the love and support of his fans over the last four decades.

Will Robert Scorpio return to General Hospital again?

Tristan Rogers appeared on General Hospital to help move the Sasha storyline along. The writers made her the love child of Robert and Holly – one he had no idea existed. However, in recent weeks, he and Holly have been mentioned as checking in with Sasha and her daughter, Daisy.

Robert greeted Sasha as Jason (Steve Burton) got them away from Port Charles and into a safe space. He brought them to Robert and Holly’s home, though only Rogers shared scenes with Mattsson and Burton.

It was clear that he was more frail than viewers had seen him, and for most of the time, he was seated as he spoke with Jason about his dedication to keeping Sasha and his granddaughter safe.

The scenes were likely shot in May or early June, given General Hospital’s taping schedule, which is done weeks ahead. It’s unclear if Rogers will pop up again, but this was also Mattsson’s exit from the show. It gave off a final vibe, leaving many to wonder whether Robert will return to Port Charles again or if this was our last glimpse of him.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
