The Chicago Fire cast no longer includes actor Jake Lockett. He had been an important part of the show, playing firefighter Sam Carver.
As with many recent exits, though, the Chicago Fire writers didn’t really give the character a proper send-off. Luckily, they corrected that trope by inviting Daniel Kyri (he plays Firefighter Darren Ritter) to open this season before he too exits. Yep, that’s right, we soon won’t have Ritter on the show either.
Locket joined the Chicago Fire cast for Season 11, (basically) replacing Jesse Spencer’s Matthew Casey in terms of heavy lifting in the storylines. He was assigned to Truck 81 under a new lieutenant, Stella Kidd (played by Miranda Rae Mayo).
Lockett had a rough time at Firehouse 51, dealing with pain from his past concerning his brother and father, and then a huge drinking problem that impacted his job. It continuously put him in the crosshairs with Kidd, who tried hard to make it work. He also had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Paramedic Violet Mikami (played by Hanako Greensmith).
What happened to Sam Carver on Chicago Fire?
Lockett was working hard on his sobriety, but found it difficult because his co-workers and friends often spent time at bars. The entire firehouse loves celebrating by drinking, and it became too much for him. His drinking problems were coupled with his lingering feelings for Violet, who had moved on to other relationships. Carver was in a no-win situation. Kidd tried to help him keep his job, despite setbacks in his sobriety, but the writers made it seem like it was all too much for him.
During the Chicago Fire Season 13 finale, Carver confessed his continued love for Violet, and they kissed again. It seemed like they could be resurrecting something, but he also revealed that he had applied for and been accepted to a position in the Denver Fire Department. Carver left, but hope remained that he could patch things up with Violet.
A new addition to the Chicago Fire cast
Chicago Fire added a new character for Season 14. Brandon Larracuente was introduced as Firefighter Sal Vasquez on Chicago Fire. It’s another character with a mysterious and troubled past. His backstory will be further explored as the season continues. As for Carver, he’s just gone.
Elsewhere, the Chicago Med cast also saw a big exit. Nurse Maggie Lockwood is absent as Season 11 begins, and here’s what happened.
