The latest Chicago Fire episode (Crime of Passion) ended dramatically. Here at Tea on TV, we long assumed the writers would tease our emotions over Mouch’s future on the show. But not like this!
Previously, it was revealed that the CFD brass was trying to sideline Engine 51, and with it the newly minted lieutenant, Randall “Mouch” McHolland (played by Christian Stolte). The firehouse would never be the same if Mouch were successfully pushed into early retirement.
The retirement trope has been used for several seasons, first with Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker), and then with Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg). Mouch wanted to advance in the ranks of the CFD before he retired.
Enjoying his spot as a lieutenant, though, Mouch is far from wanting to retire now. With the support of his boss, Chief Dom Pascal (played by Dermot Mulroney), Mouch sought to fight for his job. But he had a tough road ahead.
What happened to Mouch on Chicago Fire?
During Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 9, Mouch used every avenue available to fight for his job. That included taking his story to the media, which has backfired and placed the entire fire station at risk.
Mouch saved his job, but it came with consequences. The episode ended with news that Mouch had been reassigned to Firehouse 40. If he turned down the move, Mouch would be forced into early retirement.
Is Mouch gone for good from Chicago Fire?
The good news is that Mouch is not done on Chicago Fire. Not yet, at least. We will still see him in upcoming episodes, even if it is with a different firehouse.
“Even though we thought everything was gonna be okay — now that Mouch is in his spot he wanted, and the loving relationship that Mouch and Herrmann have, and how much Herrmann sacrificed to help get Mouch to this point — it’s all gonna be on the spot. And we’ll be exploring that,” Chicago Fire producer Reza Tabrizi told NBC Insider.
“Like anything in life, as soon as there is an element of hopefulness or success, there’s a hammer that drops,” he added. “That’s obviously true with Mouch, as far as him just being promoted to the position that he wanted for so long. And then now there’s a danger of him not having that.”
So Mouch’s story isn’t done yet. We have many reasons to worry about his future and whether Christian Stolte is leaving Chicago Fire. Moving forward, it also opens the door for some fresh storytelling, and there are many episodes left in Chicago Fire 14 to get the band back together. Stay tuned!
