The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas hints at why America Lopez isn’t promoting the show

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats introduced fans to some new reality TV rookies, including several more Big Brother stars.

United States BB stars Cedric Lopez, Blue Kim, and America Lopez all joined the MTV show’s 41st season, in an attempt to show their personalities and abilities.

Blue and America were houseguests on Big Brother 25, forming an early alliance in The Challenge house.

However, the game’s format changes often, with new veteran-rookie pairs announced for each daily challenge.

America teamed up with Johnny Bananas in Episode 3, but their performance led to some nearly unfortunate results for the seven-time winner.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Bananas seemed to suggest why his teammate has no interest in promoting The Challenge.

Spoilers will follow for those who haven’t seen Episode 3 of The Challenge: Vets and New Threats.

Bananas and Blue spoke about America’s lack of promotion

Bananas featured Blue Kim as a guest on his recent Death, Taxes and Bananas podcast. The former BB 25 star went home in just the second episode of The Challenge 41, but put up a fierce effort against castmate Taylor “Tay” Wilcoxson.

Meanwhile, Episode 3 saw nearly the same fate befall America, as the majority of votes went towards her and Bananas, sending them to the elimination.

Nia Moore and Gabe Wai were automatically last place due to being unable to compete in the daily challenge, as Nia had a knee injury and didn’t have medical clearance.

Nia underwent an MRI for her injured knee, and at the elimination, the results indicated that she would not be able to compete in that event either. Due to that, America won by default, which also saved Bananas from potentially being a “hangnail.”

While speaking with Blue on his podcast, Bananas asked if she had any idea why America isn’t promoting MTV’s show.

“No, I actually don’t know. And I’ I’ve talked to her a couple of times um after the challenge. Uh, not sure. That’s her business,” Blue said.

“Like I, you know, I’ve caught up with The Challenge people slowly getting eliminated. Like we would like kind of chitchat, whatever, but like I actually haven’t heard that much,” she said, adding, “I was actually really close to like people who were like talking to America while she was in the house and stuff like that, and we would just like keep chatting.”

Bananas suggested why America might be ’embarrassed’

“I know [America] had a hard time in the house, but I didn’t think there was anything like I’m not sure,” Blue told Bananas.

“Hard time, no pun intended,” Bananas said, chuckling, as Blue was finishing her sentence.

Bananas also asked Blue if America wasn’t promoting The Challenge: Vets and New Threats because she was “upset about performances that she had” or “embarrassed about future performances that she may have.”

It’s unclear what Bananas was referring to with his remarks. There has been speculation online from fans that America didn’t have the greatest experience while filming The Challenge.

On X, she replied to a commenter who said to her, “We know you hate the show you’re currently on, BUT WE STILL LOVE YOU QUEEN!!!”

“I don’t hate the show!! I binged every flagship season I’m a big fan!” America wrote in her July 31 reply.

However, beyond that, America’s X has been all about sharing her thoughts on the newest season of Big Brother, rather than The Challenge 41.

In his previous podcast episode, Bananas talked to castmate Rogan O’Connor, who was the first elimination of Vets and New Threats.

During their chat, Bananas mentioned how Blue went home in Episode 2, joking that it would’ve been better if someone else, like America, had gone home instead.

Bananas’ remarks are curious, so it should be interesting to see if there’s a particular moment that airs in an upcoming Vets and New Threats episode that is something “embarrassing” for America.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on MTV.
