Horacio Gutierrez left The Challenge Season 40 under some contested circumstances, and seemingly announced he was done appearing on the show.
During Battle of the Eras, he ended up facing an elimination against multi-time Challenge champ, Derrick Kosinski.
Unfortunately for Horacio, he lost that battle, despite initially thinking he would be declared the winner.
What ensued was Horacio and then-girlfriend, Nurys Mateo, blasting production on social media over what happened.
Neither he nor Nurys appears in Season 41, also known as Vets and New Threats, with Nurys even indicating that she never received a call.
Now Horacio has shared a new update in which he indicated he might be open to returning to compete.
The Challenge’s Horacio shared disappointing news with fans
Taking to his Instagram this weekend, Horacio shared a carousel post of photos from soccer. In the first, he has his back to the camera, showing his No. 8 jersey with “Gutierrez” printed above it.
Several other photos captured moments on the field, including Horacio kicking the ball and celebrating with teammates.
A final image features The Challenge star shirtless and admiring a trophy he’s holding.
“A dream never made a reality but I will forever hold onto,” Horacio wrote with soccer ball and heart emojis.
“Muchas gracias @socallegends for the opportunity, always a pleasure! The question now is, who’s next?” he asked.
In addition to the news above, many fans believe that Horacio and Nurys ended their relationship earlier this year. Rumors previously hit online, suggesting the breakup.
Since then, neither has appeared in the other’s Instagram videos or photos, suggesting they parted ways.
Could Horacio return to The Challenge?
In a comment on Horacio’s latest Instagram post, a fan suggested that he should return to MTV’s competition series.
“Not gonna hold you. I need you back in the challenge my brodda,” they commented.
That prompted the former finalist on Ride or Dies to reply with, “If they call.. I just might.”
As previously mentioned, Horacio and Nurys don’t appear in the Season 41 cast with other vets, including Derrick, Johnny Bananas, CT Tamburello, Cara Maria Sorbello, and Olivia Kaiser.
Horacio seemed to suggest that he had no desire to return to the show after his Battle of the Eras elimination.
Nurys mentioned that she didn’t receive a call to appear on this season of The Challenge. However, she has recently been working seemingly to stay ready.
