The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas makes bold claim about Ashley Mitchell

Weeks after his Vets and New Threats appearances ended, The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas dropped quite a statement about his castmate.

Ashley Mitchell has become known as “Millionaire” Mitchell. That’s due to her two wins on MTV’s competition series, including one with a jaw-dropping twist on Final Reckoning.

During the finale, viewers saw her and teammate Hunter Barfield named the winners. However, Ashley received an option to keep all the money or split it with Hunter.

She announced she wasn’t going to give him any of the prize money. She indicated it was because of how poorly he treated her throughout the season.

That moment made reality TV history, although it occurred several seasons after The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas did something similar to his Rivals III teammate, Sarah Rice.

During a recent podcast, Bananas shared his thoughts about Ashley, with an interesting claim about her millionaire status.

Bananas drops remarks about Ashley’s The Challenge status

Bananas recently sat down with Pierre Bacall, who is Zach Nichols‘ co-host on The Zach Nichols Podcast.

The Challenge legend reminded Pierre and fans that “every season is different,” and the earliest seasons of MTV’s competition series didn’t give out much for prizes.

“In the early seasons, I was getting fifty grand and a T-Mobile Sidekick,” he claimed, adding, “Now it’s like you win one and you can win a million dollars.”

“You win one Challenge and you almost have more money than someone that’s won seven,” he suggested.

Pierre brought up how his castmate Ashley “has a million” based on her wins, but Bananas quickly shut that down.

“Had. We’re calling her ‘Millionaire Mitchell’ still, no, no no. There’s a reason the girl’s living in Costa Rica,” he said.

According to The Challenge Wiki on Fandom, Ashley’s total prize money is $1,121,250, which includes her big wins on Final Reckoning and Free Agents. Bananas’ total is at $1,247,720, putting him slightly ahead of her on that list of top winners.

Fans reacted to Bananas’ latest remarks

On a Reddit subforum post about the topic, many commenters expressed frustration over Bananas’ comments about Ashley’s nickname. Some mentioned they believed it was Bananas’ jealousy showing itself.

“Her nickname has more to do with her taking the money from Hunter than the quantity of money she won imo,” one commenter on Reddit said.

“What a bizarre thing to have such a strong opinion about. He’s so sensitive,” one Reddit commenter wrote.

“Lol living in Costa Rica as if that a bad thing. I would love to live in some tropical country full of beaches and rain forests. That’s the dream life,” another individual commented.

“What’s with Bananas and dragging himself into every conversation, no matter who he discusses or what he discusses he has to bring up himself,” a Reddit commenter asked.

During a memorable scene in the newest season of The Challenge, Bannaas informed all castmates around him that he “is The Challenge” and was the reason many of them were able to participate in the season.

However, Season 41 featured one of Bananas’ worst performances out of his recent Challenge appearances. He became part of an early agenda orchestrated by castmate Olivia Kaiser to get him eliminated after what he did in Season 40, aka Battle of the Eras.

He had the chance to save himself when he automatically went into an elimination due to having the worst performance of all men in a daily challenge. Unfortunately, he competed against a beast of a new threat in rookie castmate Gabe Wai, who eliminated him in Episode 4’s Hold ‘Em Back event.

While Bananas continues to record podcasts featuring cast member interviews during Season 41, he’s no longer appearing in MTV’s televised episodes due to the elimination. Ashley is still going strong as of Episode 8, with a chance to add more money to her bank account.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on MTV.
