The Chicago Med cast welcomes back actor Colin Donnell this season.
Yes, that’s right. We finally get to see him at Med again.
Dr. Connor Rhodes will be at Gaffney for the first time since his departure in the Season 5 premiere.
He’s one of many fan-favorite characters who have left the show over its first 11 seasons.
When will Colin Donnell appear on Chicago Med again?
Colin Donnell returns as Dr. Connor Rhodes during the Chicago Med fall finale.
His new episode is on Wednesday, December 9.
Yes, we realize that’s a long way off. But at least we get lots of new Med episodes before then.
Here’s the bad news: he only has one additional episode this winter.
So it’s a two-episode arc, but at least he is back on the small screen.
Why does Dr. Rhodes return to Chicago Med?
“In Donnell’s first episode back, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) enlists Dr. Rhodes to help a young heart patient who needs a complicated, risky surgery,” reports People.
This continues a fun trend of former characters returning to the show. Med showrunner Allen MacDonald enjoys it and has really delivered some fun moments for the fans.
Previously, he brought back Torrey DeVitto as Natalie Manning, Nick Gehlfuss as Will Halstead, and Rachel DiPillo as Sarah Reese.
Dr. Connor Rhodes was the very first character fans met in the opening scene of Chicago Med’s premiere episode in 2015, and he’s one of my absolute favorites in the history of the series, so bringing him back home to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center has been an absolute priority for me since I joined the show,” MacDonald told People.
“I’m so thrilled that Colin Donnell has agreed to return in his iconic role, bringing with him all of Connor’s warmth, intelligence and complexity. Both Colin and Connor have been missed,” the showrunner added.
Why did Rhodes leave Chicago Med?
Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) killed Rhodes’ father, and then herself. It led to Rhodes leaving the hospital during the Season 5 premiere. He is still a doctor, and we will soon learn more about what he’s been up to in the past few years.
Below is a scene from when he originally said goodbye:
