The Challenge players all get paid. In addition to possibly winning nice cash prizes, everyone gets a stipend for just being on the show.
Being paid a stipend can convince some players to take time away from their lives. It’s an incentive that most reality competition shows use.
Recent rumors have stated that players on The Challenge Rookies receive roughly $1,000 a week. That’s a lot of money for many people, but not necessarily for long-time reality TV veterans.
As such, receiving $1,000 (or possibly less) might not be enough to persuade someone to upend their life for many weeks. It also spawned a new conversation among fans about how $1,000 might not be enough.
Additional rumors suggest that the veterans on The Challenge get paid much more than that, with some reports at around $3,000 to $5,000 per week or a nice lump sum to appear.
A player turned down The Challenge 42 due to low pay
“Another one of my favs declined when they found out how much they were paying,” a new post notes about The Challenge 42 cast.
Any guesses who turned them down? We should find out soon, as filming for The Challenge is slated to begin later in February.
“In this economy ppl needa be paid more than 1 thousand a week for 7 weeks guaranteed,” responded one Challenge fan.
“Maybe if they stopped paying Bananas CT Aneesa Darrell Derrick every single season they could actually afford to give their other cast members a slight raise,” posted another fan.
This fan alleged that some players get paid higher stipends to appear year after year.
Another fan echoed the sentiment that overpaying some returners was at the expense of other players.
“Think about who they could pay if they cut certain people’s pay down a bit or skipped a season with them…” wrote that fan.
