Big Brother spin-off gets a new season at CBS

The Big Brother spin-off show returns this summer. CBS gave Big Brother: Unlocked the green light.

Unlocked is a companion show that will examine what happens to the BB28 cast. It provides a unique analysis.

Last summer, BB16 winner Derrick Levasseur and BB24 winner Taylor Hale hosted Unlocked.

Each episode also featured many guest stars and alumni helping fill the time. BB26 winner Chelsie Baham was often featured, and Big Brother comedian Britney Haynes helped lighten the tone.

The show received mixed reviews from the fans, but it is back for more this summer. One thing that fans disliked was that it seemed too scripted. Derrick and Taylor often seemed to be reading cue cards instead of speaking off the cuff. That was off-putting for some viewers.

Big Brother: Unlocked Season 2 announced

“Big Brother: Unlocked returns with exclusive footage from inside the house, extended interviews, surprise guest appearances and behind-the-scenes access,” reads a press release from CBS.

Those guest appearances can be lots of fun. Last year, Director and Producer James Gunn showed up, revealing how the show was a guilty pleasure for him. He was a very fun change of pace for the studio.

But that’s not all. CBS announced a huge format change for Unlocked. Fans will be able to attend the tapings this time.

“For the first time ever, the series will feature a live studio audience, bringing fans directly into the action,” CBS announced. “Packed with new segments and returning fan favorites, the series breaks down gameplay, evaluates the competition and shares insider perspectives.”

Yes, the show will air on Friday nights again. During the first season, they had a new episode once every two weeks. Giving it enough time for two weeks of gameplay from the houseguests to be analyzed.

When is the Big Brother: Unlocked start date?

The Big Brother: Unlocked season premiere is on Friday, July 10 at 8/7c on CBS. That immediately follows the July 9 season premire of BB28.

Much like the BB28 premiere, Unlocked may be taped in advance. That’s because the rumored move-in date is a few days before the premiere. This gives producers time to tape early footage for the first few BB28 episodes.

More information to come on Unlocked Season 2

We expect news about the Unlocked hosts to be revealed soon. It was rumored that Derrick and Taylor were asked to return in some fashion, but Tea on TV hasn’t seen an official statement yet. Stay tuned for more information on Unlocked Season 2, as well as updates on the BB28 theme.
