Captain Sandy’s ‘most improved’ Below Deck Med Season 10 crew member is unexpected

Below Deck Med star Captain Sandy Yawn has made quite a statement about Season 10, and it’s just getting started.

The captain has worked with a slew of crewmembers during her time on the hit yachting series. Some have earned her praise, while others have earned her wrath over the years.

However, sometimes there is a crew member who Captain Sandy changes her tune about over the course of a season or two. That seems to have happened thanks to Below Deck Med Season 10.

Speaking with TV Insider, the captain dished some dirt on the new season that has three alums back in the mix. Aesha Scott, Nathan Gallagher, and Max Salvador have all returned for another season in the Below Deck franchise.

Below Deck Med fans know that Max had his issues during Season 8. In fact, he nearly quit with two weeks left in the charter season simply because he wasn’t having fun.

The deckhand received mixed reviews from fans and Captain Sandy at the time. It seems, though, that the captain has a whole new perspective on Max after the current season.

“Max, I think people will be surprised about. For me, Max was the most improved crew member. That’s Max. Wait until you see Max. I think you’ll be impressed with Max,” the captain shared with TV Insider.

Considering Captain Sandy’s previous frustration with Max, naming him literally as the show just premiered as the most improved, means Below Deck Med fans need to pay attention to him.

It’s also a shock since fans watched Nathan struggle in the premiere with the jet ski and his deck team. As Tea on TV reported, the trailer for Below Deck Med reveals Nathan has a tough time in the bosun role.

Nathan, adjusting to being a leader, forced the captain to spend more time with the deck team than she would have liked.

“Having Nathan as my bosun now, that changes everything. I’m a little more focused on the deck where I don’t have to focus on the interior,” Captain Sandy shared with the outlet.

The captain also admitted to not knowing what was happening with Nathan and Gael Cameron when cameras were rolling.

“To be honest, I didn’t know about his journey with Gael. As a captain, they don’t really share that sort of thing with me. I would catch little bits of it,” she expressed.

Despite not seeing their romance in real time, Captain Sandy has called them “meant to be,” especially after they welcomed their son this summer.

Make sure to keep watching Below Deck Med to see if you agree with Captain Sandy naming Max the “most improved crew member” this season.

Below Deck Med airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.
